First Canine Swine Flu Detected, Canine Swine Flu Symptoms


A dog of 13 years in the town of Bedford Hills, New York has become the first dog hit by the virus of influenza A in the U.S., reported the National Association of Veterinarians (AVMA) in the country.

According to officials of the association of U.S. professional veterinarians, the animal, which is now at home after spending two days in an animal hospital belongs to a person who a week earlier had been diagnosed with influenza A .

The dog's master decided to move the animal to the hospital on December 13 as had symptoms like high fever, dry cough, tiredness and lack of appetite, and that was when I attended veterinarians conducted an exhaustive review ruled the diagnosis.

The AVMA said the results of the analysis, conducted in laboratories around New York, indicated that the dog had the canine influenza virus, called H3N8, but of influenza that affects humans, the known H1N1, a result that was later ratified by the laboratories of the University of Iowa

The animal is recovering favorably at home and according to the AVMA, will undergo further veterinary visits to confirm that was in good health.

The association, founded in 1863 and brings together more than 78 billion U.S. veterinarians, advised pet owners to wash their hands more assiduously than usual and that if they detect that they or their animals showing symptoms of the influenza consult with a specialist and stay in their homes.
