Bird flu, also known as H5N1, Is a viral disease that mainly affects birds. He has appeared at various times and regions around the world. You can easily expand using wild birds but can also affect those that are homemade such as chickens, turkeys, ducks and even can affect other mammals, including humans. There is a general concern involving this virus could cause a pandemic.


The center of disease control said that dogs are not usually susceptible to avian influenza viruses. However, this particular virus that emerged in Asia in 2003 has been seen to infect other carnivore species such as cats, Tigers or leopards. This is why it has created a major concern about the virus could also affect dogs. An unpublished 2005 report by the National Institute of Animal Health in Bangkok indicated that dogs could be infected with the virus. Although the disease was not detected associated researchers tested with 629 village dogs and 111 cats in the district of Suphan Buri, central Thailand. Outside this place, 160 dogs and 8 cats had antibodies to H5N1, indicating that they had been infected in the past.

So far, there is insufficient information available about how the H5N1 virus affecting dogs. Most cases of infections in humans have resulted from contact with infected poultry or feces. Affected cats in Europe appear to have been infected by eating poultry or wild birds. It is possible that dogs become infected in the same way.
